National Hire a Vet Day
“The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.”
— Jeff Miller
TREASURE COAST, FL – National ‘Hire a Veteran Day’, recognized nationally on Thursday, July 25, is an action CareerSource Research Coast (CSRC) performs all year long to highlight the incredible advantages that veterans bring to local businesses. The veteran community in our region is a rich source of talent and skill, ready to contribute to the success of businesses across the area.
Veterans possess a unique combination of qualities that make them exceptional hires. Their experiences in the military have ingrained in them a strong work ethic, discipline, and a commitment to excellence. These attributes naturally translate into the civilian workforce, where they become valuable assets to any team. Veterans are not only trained to follow orders but also to lead by example. Their leadership and teamwork skills are adaptable to various business settings.
In addition to their work ethic, veterans bring exceptional problem-solving skills to the table. Military training emphasizes strategic thinking and the ability to assess situations, identify challenges, and implement effective solutions. This mindset makes veterans particularly adept at navigating the complexities of the business world. Their adaptability is another standout trait; having worked in diverse and ever-changing environments, veterans can quickly adjust to new roles and circumstances.
Moreover, many veterans have received advanced technical training in fields like Information Technology and engineering. This specialized knowledge allows them to seamlessly transition into roles that require technical proficiency. Their diverse perspectives, shaped by global experiences, further enrich workplace culture and drive innovation. By hiring veterans, businesses gain employees who understand a broad customer base and can contribute to a more inclusive and dynamic work environment.
To support veterans in their transition to civilian employment, CareerSource Research Coast provides a comprehensive array of services. Our network of professional Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) specialists and Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVER) offers priority workforce services to veterans, transitioning service members, and eligible spouses. Additionally, spouses of active-duty members can benefit from the Military Family Employment Program, which provides tailored support to help them find meaningful employment opportunities.
A success story from CSRC highlights the impact of these services. Chris Rainey, a CSRC Local Veteran Employment Representative (LVER), worked diligently to connect Navy veteran Scott Ernsberger with purposeful employment. Through a series of assessments and personalized guidance, Chris was able to place Scott at SportLife Distribution in Fort Pierce, a distributor of sports nutrition and health products. Scott has been working there for nearly a month, and the staff is very pleased with how he has fit into the workflow, demonstrating the value veterans can bring to a business.
“Our veterans have served our country with honor and dedication. Hiring them not only strengthens our workforce but also enriches our community. Their skills, values, and commitment are invaluable assets to any organization”, shared Brian Bauer, President/CEO of CareerSource Research Coast.
Local businesses have a unique opportunity to support veterans while reaping the benefits of their exceptional talents. By recognizing the skills and dedication of veterans, businesses can enhance their competitive edge and contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of our community.
