Governor Approves Two Regional Planning Areas Ahead of Schedule
Workforce System Transformation Update
On March 7, Governor Ron DeSantis approved the CareerSource Florida Board of Director’s recommended designation of two Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Regional Planning Areas, marking a major achievement in the organization’s three-prong approach to transform services that assist job seekers and businesses.
At the February 28 CareerSource Florida Board of Directors meeting, members approved the requests for WIOA Regional Planning Areas for the following areas:
Atlantic Coast Florida: CareerSource Research Coast and CareerSource Palm Beach
Northwest Florida: CareerSource Escarosa, CareerSource Okaloosa Walton, CareerSource Chipola, and CareerSource Gulf Coast
Regional Planning is one of the key pillars in the Florida Workforce System Transformation plan to modernize the state’s local workforce development board governance structure and ensure the system is customer-centered, cost-effective, and responsive to workforce demands. The new Regional Planning Areas are being implemented ahead of the June 30, 2024 milestone originally set.
Regional Planning is also encouraged by WIOA to align workforce development activities and resources with larger regional economic development areas to provide coordinated and efficient services to job seekers and employers. It develops, aligns, and integrates strategies to support regional economic growth.
